“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6: 11 ESV)
GOOD NEWS THE OLD MAN WAS CRUCIFIED!
We must know that the “old man” is dead and we are free from the tyranny of sin, Rom. 6:6
God does not say might be crucified or becoming crucified; He says “was crucified!” When we become Christ-Followers that is, born-again, regenerated by the indwelling Holy Spirit; the “old man” or the “old self” dies. He is no longer.
Some refer this to the power of the flesh. Before we were drawn to Christ we were slaves to the flesh to sin whenever it brought up the idea. But now as believers we can say no to our flesh and its various lusts and works of sin.
Major point – The believer does not have two natures in him! We have one new regenerated –alive to God- nature. We now fight against our own flesh as we wait for our glorified bodies at the II Coming of our Lord
GOOD NEWS WE ARE DEAD TO SIN!
This is a matter of faith and obedience to the truth of what God has said.
Consider – Logizomai = Present, middle, imperative. An action that we are commanded to do consistently.
o Logizomai = to account; to consider; to impute charge to one’s account, Rom. 4:3.
To believe what God says is true in His word, is true in our life.
Doesn’t say feel as if you are dead, but to consider by faith that you are dead to sin. God does not command us to become dead to sin, He tells we are and not only that we are alive to God!
Not a matter of claiming a promise but acting on a truth.
The work of faith – we know that faith without works is dead!
GOOD NEWS WE ARE ALIVE TO GOD!
Not only are we to consider ourselves dead to sin but also to believe/consider we are ALIVE TO GOD!
o We have the wonderful indwelling of the Holy Spirit, Who helps us in all of our endeavors to walk with our Lord in obedience to His Word. He obviously does much more; He desires to glorify the name of Christ in us and through us.
o We now can understand Scripture as it reveals God’s will to us.
o We now have an intimate personal relationship with the Almighty Heavenly Father.
BELOVED THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT SIN NO LONGER HAS POWER OVER US! WE HAVE BEEN MADE ALIVE TO GOD THROUGH THE DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION OF CHRIST!
Do you believe this? Is this truth freeing you from habitual sin?
Do you know that you are alive to God?
ONE MORE GREAT TRUTH:
In fighting sin in our lives it is not a matter of fighting with the sin itself. It is a submitting yourself to God first and then giving your instruments to Him to use. It is not fighting with sin in our own strength but God dealing with sin through us because of being alive spiritually. We do definitely need to say no sin and yes to God, Rom. 6:10-14; James 4:7
