“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:21–26, ESV)

Beloved, at the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, God provides to those who believe – His righteousness!  How important is this?  It is a righteousness that is foreign to the human race, impossible for us to do or obtain in and of ourselves. The truth is no one is righteous no not one as Rom. 10:10 declares. This righteousness is the holiness of God, it is God’s alone and no one can belong to God’s forever family apart from this righteousness.

Jesus, Who is God Incarnate, provides this righteousness to all who believe in Him. Only God can provide His righteousness, one of the Old Testament names for God is Jehovah Tsidkenu – Jer. 23:5-6, the Lord our Righteousness. This name reveals that God becomes for us what He requires of us.  Proving that our great God becomes the just and the justifier of those who has placed their faith in the Risen Savior.

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV)

As our Lord shed His blood on the cross and resurrected three days later, His death, burial and resurrection provided the righteousness of God to all who would come to believe in Him.  This is the “good news” of the Gospel that our Lord provided what is required of us.

We cannot work for this righteousness, we are helpless and without hope in a God judged world without His righteousness. All who reject the Risen Savior will suffer the consequences of their sin in the blackness of eternity without God.  All one can do is to repent and believe in the finished work of the Cross by the Risen Savior, throwing themselves on the wonderful love, mercy and grace of the One who is alive.

Without our Lord’s Resurrection we are still in our sins and without hope. But He is indeed raised and all who repent and believe will be Born-Again becoming a child of God, forever secure in His love, never to face the wrath of God.
